Salamander Pump Fault Finder

This page is specifically designed to assist in finding any faults relating to Salamander pumps.

• FAULT FINDER

  • FAULT
  • Pump will not start.
    • PROBABLE CAUSE
    • Check that you have the correct flow to turn the pump on.
      • YES
      • The flow rate is more than 1 litre in a minute.
        • SOLUTION
        • Check flow switches are free from debris these are located in the outlet of the pump.
        • If you have checked the above please contact Salamander service on Tel:0845 377 9160.
      • NO
      • The flow rate is less than 1 litre in a minute.
        • SOLUTION
        • Check product is piped in correctly.
        • Check that all air is primed from pipe work.
        • Check that any filters are clear and valves are fully open.

    • Electrical problem
      • PROBABLE CAUSE
      • Check power supply.
      • Check fuse.
      • Check circuit breaker.
      • Check for debris in flow switches.

    • Air in system.
      • SOLUTION
      • Check that pump and pipe work is primed of all air.
      • Check that pump and pipe work is installed and plumbed in as per installation instructions, these can be downloaded by clicking here.
    • Sticking flow switch.
      • SOLUTION
      • Check for debris under switch, this is located in the outlet of the pump.
  • Reduced performance or flow
    • PROBABLE CAUSE
    • Air in pump or system.
      • SOLUTION
      • Check that pump and pipe work is primed of all air.
      • Check that the hot supply to the pump is fitted with the correct flange fitted to the hot water cylinder.
      • Check that pump and pipe work is installed and plumbed in as per installation instructions, these can be downloaded by clicking here.
    • Inlet filters blocked.
      • SOLUTION
      • These are located in the inlet of the pump impeller, isolate the electricity and water supply, remove check and clean.
    • AV couplers bent or distorted.
      • SOLUTION
      • AV couplers are not flexible connectors in the same sense as a flexible tap connector they are to avoid noise and vibration hense AV (anti-vibration) when these are used as flexible connectors they can kink inside. Make sure that they are fitted with out any stress and are straight.
    • Excessive hot temperature.
      • SOLUTION
      • It is critical for all pumps that the water temperature does not exceed 65 degrees. In the new part G building regulation it is stated that this should not exceed 60 degrees. The higher the water temperature the more likley that the life of the pump will be greatly reduced, you can not reley on the accuracy of the hot water cylinder thermostat as a guide they should be set to 50-55 degrees.
  • Pump starts when not in use.
    • PROBABLE CAUSE
    • Air in system.
      • SOLUTION
      • Check that pump and pipe work is primed of all air.
    • Leak in pipe work.
  • Noisey pump.
    • PROBABLE CAUSE
    • Air in system.
    • Pump fitted under bath (exaggerates noise).
    • Touching pipes.
    • AV Couplers bent or stressed.
  • Leaking pump.
    • PROBABLE CAUSE
    • Check it is not fitted to mains water pressure.
    • Hot water being delivered too hot.
    • Possible chemical damage (plumbers flux ect).

  • Electrical problem
    • Check power supply
    • Check fuse
    • Check circuit breaker
  • Pump Set In Wrong Mode
    • How to configure ESP Pump
    • If the yellow L.E.D. (P) light is on turn off power. Turn power on and the pump will run. Then the pump will stop and the orange L.E.D. (P) will go out and the green L.E.D. (N) will come on. When the green L.E.D. (N) comes on turn off power, then back on within 5 seconds. The pump will run for the second time and stop on the orange L.E.D. (P) which will then go out and the green L.E.D. (N) will flash off, on – then the green L.E.D.(N) will stay on.
  • Warning LED light lit
    • Which LED is Illuminated?
    • LED Light 1
      • Leak Detection Mode
      • Check all outlets are fully closed and there is no leaks on the outlet pipe work
      • Check WC's are fitted with Equilibrium ball valves
      • Ensure pump is fitted as per Salamanders installation instructions
    • LED Light 2
      • Aeration - Starvation Mode
      • Check that the cold water storage tank is correct for installation and pump is fitted as per Salamander Installation instructions
      • Check that there is a flange fitted to the hot water cylinder
      • If fitted above the outlet to the hot water cylinder check that an anti-gravity loop has been plumbed in
    • LED Light 3
      • High Temperature Dectection
      • This is due to supply temperature being too hot, check that the cylinder stat is set to a maximum 60 degrees and is functioning correctly
